MYTH

Naturally Distinct

In 1840, brothers James and John Grant built the first distillery in Rothes. They settled on a corner of Speyside charmed with nature and the pristine Back Burn that offered a source of pure, mineral-rich water. In 1872, heir James 'The Major' Grant inherited the distillery.

Inspired Innovation

James journeyed the world and discovered exotic flowers and plants, which he brought back to Rothes, creating a vast and splendid garden in the heart of the distillery's grounds. This exquisite and varied natural collection inspired a vision for a unique single malt. James then created tall, slender pot stills and special water-cooling purifiers to capture finer, aromatic vapours and a gentler spirit cut, bursting with orchi fruits.

Authentic Legacy

Today, iconic Master Distiller Malcolm OBE, honors The Major's innovative legacy and spirit. Malcolm is one of the longest-serving distillers in Scotland. Born on the distillery grounds, he began his journey as an apprentice cooper at fifteen years old. His life's work is in combining tradition and innovation to protect the rare character of The Glen Grant, which is created from barley to bottle on the grounds. Still using taller stills and water-cooling purifiers that capture a gentle sprit cut, maturing the whisky in traditional stone warehouses and ageing in the honest ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks.

Characteristics

Age-Old Tradition
Master Distiller Dennis Malcolm OBE, keeps The Glen Grant's tradition alive by crafting whisky in the same way as in 1873 when The Major introduced the tall, slender pot stills and unique water-cooling purifiers to guarantee a complex, aromatic, and elegant spirit. Dennis still uses old-fashioned wooden fermenters made from Oregon pine, instead of modern, stainless steel, as wood allows more flavours to develop during fermentation.

All Mode On-Site
Once filled, casks age in traditional stone dunnage warehouses -- the same warehouses used for over a century -- that maintain the perfect conditions to achieve the signature taste profile of The Glen Grant. To further certify the quality, from barley milling to bottling, every drop of The Glen Grant is produced on the distillery grounds, using the pristine, mineral-rich Back Burn water. The Glen Grant is one of the only distillers in Speyside to bottle every drop of spirit on site. The bottling hall was officially opened by His Royal Highness Prince Charles, Prince of Wales and Duke of Rothesay, in 2013.

Aged To Perfection
The Glen Grant 21 Year Old is matured in the highest quality ex-oloroso sherry casks and bourbon barrels. This precious whisky is left to rest in the distillery's oldest traditional dunnage warehouse, Warehouse Number 4; the ideal resting conditions allow for a perfected slow maturation.

Premium Offering
Each cask is hand-selected by the Master Distiller himself and married in small batches. a result is an exceptional whisky, non-chill filtered and bottled at 46% ABV, showcasing the singular complexity The Glen Grant is known for –one of Dennis Malcolm’s nest achievements.

Moment

Sipping Ritual

To truly appreciate this prestigious expression, first examine the color of the whisky. Tilt the glass and look toward the edges. Hold it up to the light to observe, more closely, the whisky’s natural golden hue.

Swirl your glass to aerate the whisky. Certain aromas may become apparent – look for sweet, ripe peaches, toffee, and raisins. Keep your mouth slightly open as you breathe in to fully experience the aromas.Use the first sip to coat your mouth with the whisky, to introduce the alcohol and flavour. The whisky will open with the second sip. Hold the whisky in your mouth for a few seconds and consider its mouthfeel: texture, weight, and viscosity. The palate should feel soft and welcoming with an explosion of rich tropical fruits and creamy butter notes.

Finally, the finish, the lingering flavours on the back of the palate. This expression offers a long-lasting finish of caramelized crème brûlée.The ritual of the tasting is then repeated with the addition of water. Eyedroppers or straws allow you to add a precise amount of water to the whisky to open the bouquet and elevate the complex aromas and flavour.
